New and old faces in Sam Hou Fai’s newly appointed cabinet

Tai Kin Ip will be the new Secretary for Economy, while administration and justice chief André Cheong and security head Wong Sio Chak retain their roles in a cabinet that includes two other newcomers.

The State Council announced on Saturday the principal officials of the new Macau SAR Government, with three new faces among the five policy secretaries who will serve under Chief Executive-designate Sam Hou Fai after 20 December.

Incumbent Secretary for Administration and Justice, André Cheong, and current Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, will retain their positions.

Elsie Ao Ieong U, who has served as Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture for the past five years, has been appointed Commissioner of Audit.

As for the remaining two policy secretaries under the current Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, the fate of Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong is yet to be determined, while outgoing Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo Arrais do Rosário will retire.

The three new faces among the five secretaries are Tai Kin Ip, O Lam, and Raymond Tam.

Tai Kin Ip, the director of the Economic Services Bureau, will serve as Secretary for Economy and Finance. O Lam, the former head of the office of ex-Chief Executive Chui Sai On and the current vice president of the Municipal Affairs Bureau, has been appointed Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture. Meanwhile, Raymond Tam, director of the Environmental Protection Bureau, will replace Rosário as Secretary for Transport and Public Works.

The Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) will also see a leadership change, with Deputy Commissioner Ao Ieong Seong succeeding Chan Tsz King. Chan has been nominated as Prosecutor General of the Public Prosecutions Office, replacing Ip Son Sang.

Additionally, the State Council’s appointment confirms that Leong Man Cheong will remain Commissioner-General of the Unitary Police Service.

SAR to have new gaming regulator chief

Also according to the same announcement, the current director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), Adriano Marques Ho, has been appointed as Director-General of Macau Customs.

This appointment means that the city will have a new gaming regulator director from 20 December.

Adriano Marques Ho, whose Chinese name is Ho Hou Hon, has served as the head of the DICJ since May 2020, succeeding Paulo Martins Chan.
